Unprecedented orchestral sounds
In connection with International Women’s Day (8th March) we present concerts under the banner ‘frauenkomponiert‘ (lit.: “women-composed”). Musicians from Basel’s leading orchestras and freelance musicians from Basel and the surrounding area come together to perform compositions by women of various nationalities from the nineteenth to the twentieth-first centuries. In times past, the orchestra was predominantly a male sphere, but there are excellent pieces by women composers that are not included in the standard orchestral repertoire of today. Our vision is to introduce these works both to the music world and to the public.
Following on from frauenkomponiert’s successful concerts in 2015 and 2016, the following innovations are on the agenda for 2018:
- the large symphony concert will be performed four times, in Basel, Zürich, Bern and – in a special „play time“ for school children – in Münchenstein;
- the symphony concert will be enriched by a festival programme: from 7th–11th March 2018 chamber music, vocal works, piano music and organ recitals will resound in the city of Basel;
- the resonance of the festival will be increased by podium talks, a lecture and a round-table discussion.
